Going back to school on the golf course can be very educational.
Some of the country’s best public golf courses are affiliated with colleges and universities.
While staff, alumni, and students tend to get the best rates, it’s great that public golfers get access to the best college golf courses, too.
Generally speaking, most college courses are better kept than your average course. They’re part of the college/university athletic department, so there is plenty of funding and motivation to keep them in good shape, either for the men’s and women’s golf teams or for that big-spending donor who’s teeing it up before the big football game in the fall.
Unlike the football field, smaller colleges and universities can compete with larger, more famous universities and their golf playgrounds. For example, the University of Michigan Golf Course, Yale Golf Course and Texas Golf Club didn’t make our cut. Our Top 20 U.S. College Golf Courses all received at least 10 reviews to be eligible.
