EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY’S EAGLE CREST GOLF CLUB

RANKED AMONG THE TOP 10 PUBLIC GOLF COURSES BY THE DETROIT FREE PRESS

YPSILANTI – Stunning views of Ford Lake, practical challenges, and ideal golfing conditions are just a few characteristics that earned Eagle Crest Golf Club the No. 5 spot on the Detroit Free Press Top 10 Public Golf Courses in metro Detroit for 2022.

Eagle Crest, owned and operated by Eastern Michigan University, is the home course of EMU’s women’s and men’s golf teams. It features an 18-hole layout with distinctive holes, stunning views of Ford Lake, and an extensive practice facility consisting of a three-tier driving range, a short game area with a pitching/chipping green, and two practice putting greens.

In a recent article, Free Press reporter Carlos Monarrez said, “what makes this (Eagle Crest) an outstanding course is the marriage between challenge and beauty that comes in the form of natural unadornment.”

“The course has undergone considerable improvements since the implementation of a Jim Lipe master plan in 2011 that laid the foundation as one of the premier resort golf courses in Michigan,” said Wes Blevins, PGA Director of Golf at Eagle Crest. “EMU has been working to deliver the total golf experience to guests with resort-quality course conditions and spectacular scenery over the past decade.”

Blevins said what establishes Eagle Crest Golf Club as the jewel of Ypsilanti is the renovations consisting of new tee complexes, lengthening the golf course, tree removal of dead or diseased trees, removing and relocating cart paths and addressing the playability of the golf course, among others.

Monarrez notes that Eagle Crest has the requirements expected from a course home to elite amateur golfers and college tournaments. The course, accessible to anyone who wants to try their hand at golf, has 12 sets of tees ranging from 3,079 yards up to 7,186 yards to accommodate any age or skill level.

As the only resort golf course in Southeast Michigan, Eagle Crest offers Visage GPS Units on all golf carts, golf shop, banquet facility room overlooking the golf course, The Eagle Crest Bar and Grille, Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, among other amenities.

The Roy E. Wilbanks Eagle Crest Golf Clubhouse has a banquet facility venue overlooking Ford Lake and the Eagle Crest Grille serving lunch and dining with an outdoor porch offering panoramic views of the golf course and lake.
